We all benefit from talking to a ‘thinking partner’1, whether we like it or not. The added value can arise because of hearing another perception, breaking through your own thinking pattern or working together to create a highly innovative business concept.

Talking to a thinking partner can create doubts, be (slightly) uncomfortable or exciting, because it requires you to step out of your comfort zone (more here). Especially if you do something for the first time, you tend to find reasons to NOT do something.

Here are 15 reasons why you should NOT talk to a thinking partner:

  1. It’s just the way I am
  2. It makes me look weak
  3. It’s not worth the money
  4. I’ll do it when I feel better
  5. I already tried that before
  6. I’m already delivering right now, so why change it?
  7. It is too difficult
  8. All that coaching and talking is only for weird people
  9. It will not work
  10. I don’t have the time yet
  11. I have never done that
  12. It feels uncomfortable
  13. It’s too late to start now
  14. I don’t want to bother anyone else with it
  15. I don’t have the money right now

All of these reasons to not talk to a thinking partner, don’t have to be a problem. They can become a problem when those reasons become obstacles. And when those obstacles are keeping you from achieving your goals. Talking to a thinking partner will help you to achieve your goals.

There can be 1000 reasons not to do something; you only need 1 single good reason to start getting ahead, what is yours?

One of my coachees wrote his reason why:

Working with Laurent has been enriching for me; it has opened doors for me that would otherwise have remained closed.
